Overview

It's the bookstore that everybody loves, but few can correctly pronounce the name of. Not that it matters; you will want to visit regardless. Kinokuniya sits atop The Galeries in the heart of the CBD and is a veritable homing ground for booklovers.

The Japanese bookstore giant believes in promoting art and culture, not just hawking the best-selling pulp-literary tat to people. It boasts an entire Japanese section, a great range of graphic novels and manga and an incredible range of art and design books, as well as every kind of fiction under the sun. Kinokuniya also features an in-store gallery that showcases emerging artists. You're likely to lose a couple of hours and potentially a few kilos sifting through the extensive range.

The store also regularly hosts events to celebrate various authors and genres and has become a go-to for publishing houses to host book launches, cementing its reputation as Sydney's bookstore mecca.
