Maccallum Seawater Pool
A tidal rock pool with heritage bones that boasts some of the best harbour views in Sydney.
Overview
Maccallum Seawater Pool started life as an informal rock pool, hand-built by Cremorne Point locals looking for a safe spot to swim in the harbour, before the current timber-and-stone structure went in during the 1920s. Council gave it a full heritage restoration in the 80s, preserving the original design rather than replacing it, and the pool still fills and empties on the tide rather than through any mechanical system.
The timber sun deck is the real drawcard, especially on a winter afternoon when the low sun hits it directly and the crowds thin out. It's free to swim, sits right on the Cremorne Point walking track, and the panoramic harbour views put it well ahead of your average local pool. With heritage charm and a proper sense of place, it's more than just a spot to do laps.
