Northside Produce Markets
A twice-monthly market that doubles as North Sydney Community Centre's biggest fundraiser, pulling farmers in from as far as Crescent Head and the Riverina.
Overview
Every stall at the Northside Produce Markets exists to support the North Sydney Community Centre, which has run the market as its major fundraiser since 1999. More than 70 stallholders make the trip in from across the state — Orange, the Riverina, the Southern Highlands, the Central Tablelands — to sell what they've grown, baked or made themselves, direct to the people who'll eat it.
The setting helps: Ted Mack Civic Park, a patch of green wedged between North Sydney Council and Stanton Library, gives the whole thing a leafy, unhurried feel a world away from the office towers a few blocks over. Produce ranges from fruit and veg to artisan cheese, bread and smallgoods, with enough ready-to-eat food and coffee on hand to turn a grocery run into a slow Saturday morning.
It runs rain or shine, on the first and third Saturday of the month, and has kept that rhythm for long enough to become a fixture rather than a novelty — a market North Sydney locals plan their weekend around rather than stumble into.
