Overview

Wellington's bar scene is bustling on any night of the week, with plenty of quirky and alternative spots to check out. Now sitting at 195 Cuba Street, lit by a large, hard-to-miss neon sign is Chooky's. Here you'll find a pub like no other, with a steampunk-themed interior and plenty of pizza, pub grub and drinks to go around, as well as a huge range of deals and special events to look forward to.

Established just last year, Chooky's Pub & Pantry is one of the newest gastropubs to land on Cuba Street and has already attracted a large crowd of locals. Chooky's labels itself as a home-away-from-home, with its cosy and inviting interior the perfect spot to kick back and relax with a craft beer and some board games on a Saturday night.

Paired with the steampunk aesthetic, Chooky's also offers a range of different zones with your choice of booths or raised bar tables. With zones holding up to 12 people at a time, these intimate areas create the perfect spot to host a gathering or catch up.

Of course, Chooky's couldn't be your home-away-from-home without some seriously tasty home-cooked meals. Delve into the extensive dinner menu, where you'll find all of your favourite comfort foods and pub snacks. Begin your night with a fresh plate of haloumi bites in sesame honey ($13) or polenta fries in Chooky's sauce ($12). Or, if you're really in the mood for some home comforts, dig into Chooky's Sunday roast, covered in seasonal roasted vegetables and gravy ($24).

For those who would prefer to create their own meal, the kitchen has launched a deli inside the venue during the day serving up build-your-own-bowls and sandwiches — catering for vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and paleo diets.

You'll also find that Chooky's drinks menu is well prepared for every occasion, with a range of craft beer, wine, cocktails and spirits to choose from. Chooky's holds popular names such as Garage Project, Parrot Dog, Fortune Favours and much more. Or, try one of the rather outlandish cocktails like the Berry Blues, a mix of Tanqueray gin, raspberry, berry tea, lemon, soda and marshmallows ($18).

Chooky's has you sorted for any night of the week, with an ever-changing lineup of special events. Pop in on Monday for $1 wings, enjoy the quiz night on Tuesday, karaoke on Wednesday, $10 cocktails on Thursday, and a rotating program of live music every Friday. If you've been searching for all of the home comforts at your local pub, with an alternative mix of events and menu items to enjoy, then Chooky's is the place.
