Overview

New Zealand Festival, known for bringing some of the most exciting arts experiences to Wellington every even-numbered year, are bringing Barber Shop Chronicles to the capital in February 2018.

You know how you always seem to end up telling your hairdresser your life story? This wildly successful production by young UK-based Nigerian playwright Inua Ellams embodies the idea of personal grooming as confessional, going deep into the banter of barber shops around London and across Africa. Fatherhood, football, politics — nothing is off limits.

To celebrate the show, NZ Festival is supplying free buzz-cuts and banter for Wellingtonians in a pop-up barber shop in Midland Park on Friday. Two of NZ's best-known barbers — Rod from Godfather Barbers and Auckland's The Barter Barber — are giving new meaning to 'hair today, gone tomorrow' with this lunchtime salon.

Get a new look and some excellent yarns from 12pm until 1.30pm on Friday 8 December at Midland Park.
