Overview
Christchurch-based drummer and main vocalist Nick Gaffaney and guitarist and loop guru Aaron Tokona formed the band Cairo Knife Fight during a boozy jam session in a Wellington bar in 2009. Since its inception, Cairo Knife Fight has shared the stage with rock legends such as The Foo Fighters, Them Crooked Vultures and Queens of the Stone Age. Their sound is one that has been said to “find new ground somewhere between the power of Led Zeppelin and the fearlessness of Radiohead”.
The Colossus is the band’s debut album and features the influences of an impressive cast roll of some of the most accomplished guitarists and songwriters from around the globe including Joel Haines, Laughton Kora, William Knapp, American Legend Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees, Queens of The Stone Age) and Los Angeles producers and musicians Tyler Fournames (Marilyn Manson) and John Anderson (Banks).
“Written with and influenced by a number of extraordinarily talented friends from all over the world - some of whom I hadn't even met when the process started - it's a genuine culmination of all the experiences Cairo Knife Fight has had, but also a launchpad to the band's future musical direction" said Gaffaney.
Joining the duo on the release tour is American, Grammy Award-winning guitarist, songwriter and producer George Pajon Jr.; one of the Black Eyed Peas’ main performing and recording musicians, co-writing many of the groups’ top hits. He has also worked with stars such as Carlos Santana, Sting, Macy Gray, Kelis, Nas, Damien Marley, Sérgio Mendes and July Black.
A rock collaboration of the highest calibre; this show is not to be missed by anyone who calls themselves a fan of rock.
