Church Road's Feast of Five

You've probably never done a wine tasting like this before.

Overview

How many senses do you think come into play when wine tasting? If you answered two, we're in the same boat. But one wine researcher is hoping to change all that, with her new series exploring how stimulating the senses in various ways can draw different flavours out of the same glass of vino.

'Multi-sensory explorer' Dr Jo Burzynska, (yep, that's the first time we've heard that title as well) is an NZ-based artist and wine writer, and holds a PhD in the psychological effects of sound and music on the perception of wine. She's teamed up with winery Church Road to host a series of dinners called Feast of Five, where attendees will be treated to a five-course degustation menu and an interactive wine tasting — accompanied by palate-shifting prisms of colour, shape, texture and sound.

Church Road's Feast of Five is happening in three cities across Aotearoa over the next month: at Auckland's Lodge Bar on Wednesday, July 6, at Shed 5 in Wellington on Saturday, July 28, and down at The Bunker in Queenstown on Wednesday, August 24. Tickets cost $175 a head — head to the official site to book your spot.
