Overview

Federico Fellini, Michelangelo Antonioni, Vittorio De Sica — Italy has a rich cinematic history that is being celebrated with the third Cinema Italiano Festival. Combining the best of contemporary Italian cinema with classic masterpieces, Wellingtonians will be able to take a tour of Italy between 1-14 November at Empire Cinema.

From arresting dramas to offbeat comedies and thoughtful documentaries, there will be something for all tastes. Regardless of style, each film celebrates the Italian language, culture and the idiosyncrasies of Vivere all'Italiana. This year, the festival celebrates the theme of love. While Italy is synonymous to many with romantic love, 2018 showcases the multi-faceted depths of this emotion.

The love of a father leads him to shield his son from the horrors of war in Life Is Beautiful. Indivisibili' explores the contradictory love of conjoined twins. While Moglie e Marito' explores the beautiful banalities of everyday love through the bizarre tale of a husband and wife swapping bodies. There are 19 films playing as part of this year's festival; see the full lineup via the Cinema Italiano Festival website.
