Cut + Paste

Art with a lot of depth - both literal and metaphorical.

Overview

What might be one of the most underappreciated art forms ever to have been invented, collage finally gets its time in the limelight in Cut + Paste, a showcase of talented artists who do just that. Learn about how collage has evolved through time with the influences of major art movements, including dadaism, surrealism, pop art, abstraction and new media art, and see how the most talented contemporary artists combine the best of the art eras to create the cut and pasted works.

If your knowledge of collage extends only to your kindergarten scrapbook, you’ll be amazed at the thought and talent that goes into the masterpieces. The physical layers of the works make way for symbolic layers that aren’t so easily conveyed through 2D artwork. It is an art of collecting and arranging and rearranging and building, and the layers end up telling stories with a lot of depth - both literal and metaphorical.

Talented collage artists include Eve Armstrong, Don Driver, Peter Madden and Kate Woods, alongside multiple other names, all of whom use their art to push physical boundaries and explore the theme of pop culture, trends of daily life, and how the mainstream media constructs our world.
