Many have dreamed of the day when one may play with Lego under the facade of participating in an interactive art exhibition. Well, that day has arrived.

If you’ve always wondered what a Lego World on contemporary artistic steroids would look like, the time has come for you to experience Demented Architecture.

Hosted by Wellington’s City Gallery from 27 June to 8 November 2015, this light-hearted exhibition studies the role of architecture and the mythology of the architect from a contemporary satire-rich perspective. Featuring local and international artists, there are a bunch of quirky installations to take note of. One of particular interest is Danish artist Olafur Eliasson’s The Cubic Structural Evolution Project that features a kazillion white Lego pieces and invites visitors to get their toddler on and participate in the construction, modification, destruction and re-construction of the work.

There’s also a darkly mesmerising video by Scotland’s Henry Coombes titled I Am the Architect, This is Not Happening, This is Unacceptable, of which the viewer is transported inside the mind of ‘Clive’, the retired modernist architect who surrenders himself to the chaos of art. On the local front, Wellingtonian Kirsty Lillico presents a series of sculptures that parody the utopian visions of modernist architecture.

With free entry and over four months to go and check it out, there’s no excuse to not explore this mind-bending exhibition, if not just to play with copious amounts of Lego.
