Australasia's premier documentary festival, Documentary Edge, is returning to New Zealand shores for its 13th year. Attracting the finest documentary makers from within the Pacific and around the globe, expect a prime selection of films touching on topics from pop culture to politics.

While the full lineup is yet to be announced, organisers have teased five documentaries that will appear at the 2018 festival. Docos screening include: Leitis in Waiting, an inspiring insight into queer lives in the Pacific; Freedom: The Director's Cut, an autobiographical feature about George Michael; Anote's Ark, an important film about climate change on a low-lying atoll; Genesis 2.0, a Sundance feature following the quest to clone a woolly mammoth; plus Golden Dawn Girls, a profile of women under a far-right leader.

With directors such as Academy Award winner Barbara Kopple, Christian Frei and even the late George Michael himself, there will be something for everyone. Beginning on May 9 and running until May 20 at Roxy Cinema, there's plenty of time to go along and see some of the best documentaries of the past year.
