Overview

Make way for a new addition to the bevy of film festivals in Wellington; the Dutch Film Festival is here. The nation's world-renowned documentaries and acclaimed flicks will take centre stage at Nga Taonga Sound & Vision for the festival's inaugural run from October 18 to November 11.

This year's program begins with a bang — an opening night filled with drinks and delectable Dutch fare hosted by the Netherlands Embassy. Kicking off the festival is Michiel de Ruyter, a naval biopic focused on the seventeenth-century Dutch admiral of the same name. Screening on the second night is award-winning film TBS, a gripping tale of a convicted killer set out to prove his innocence. The festival comes to a close with The Chocolate Case, an in-depth documentary about the devastating effects of slavery in the chocolate industry.

These riveting movies will definitely be a diverse inclusion to your year's must-watch list. All films are in Dutch with English subtitles. Admission is free but seating is first come, first served so make sure to reserve your tickets.
