Overview
From the 'Dunedin sound' to Unknown Mortal Orchestra, New Zealand's music scene has long punched above its weight on the international stage. May is New Zealand Music Month — a chance to celebrate everything good and great about our music on home soil through a glut of releases and tours. Estère is one such local artist. She'll be touring her latest album My Design, On Others' Lives at Caroline on Thursday 3 May. Estère's gutsy take on electronica coupled with her supple voice has seen her open for Grace Jones, John Cale, Flume, Erykah Badu and nab a spot at the coveted Afropunk Paris music festival.
My Design, On Others' Lives furthers Estère within her own genre which she has defined as "electric blue witch hop". Always one to push and stretch herself, Estère somehow manages to take samples of a crashing cutlery drawer a possum hissing and extraordinary lyric writing to create a sound that stands within and outside of the realm of popular music.
She will be joined on her Wellington leg by alt-pop duo Physical. With early bird tickets sold out, it's clear that this is a night not to be missed. Snap up your tickets at Under the Radar and keep up to date on Estère's Facebook page.
