Overview

If you’re a sucker for a good doco, read on. Finding Vivian Maier is the critically acclaimed documentary about a mysterious nanny who secretly took over 100,000 photographs during the 1950’s – 1980’s that were hidden in storage lockers. Discovered decades later, her massive body of photographic work has since earned her a posthumous reputation as one of the 20th century’s greatest photographers.

Directed by John Maloof and Charlie Siskel, this intriguing documentary takes us from New York to France to Chicago as it traces the history of the late Vivian Maier, her riveting story and art that is revealed through never-before-seen photographs, films and interviews with dozens who thought they knew her. Pretty cool, huh? If you’re wondering when you can see her work for yourself, you’ll be waiting a while. Currently, her photographs are being archived and catalogued by none other than director John Maloof, who has placed himself at the heart of the project, determined to reconstruct her archive for generations to come. For now, I’d say the next best thing is to nab tickets to the doco at your earliest convenience – I’m betting it’ll be a goodie.
