Overview

Halloween's taking on a mockumentary vibe at Southern Cross this year with a screening of Taika Waititi's kiwi vampire classic, What We Do In The Shadows.

The film follows three dysfunctional vampirical flatmates living in Wellington. They're just trying to get by in modern society — making sure the jobs roster gets done, partying in town on Courtenay Place, and getting their rent in on time. There's only one thing that sets them apart from all the other flats in Wellington — they're immortal and need to feast on human blood to survive (that's something you can't get at the Kilbirnie Pak n Save). When their flatmate Petyr (8000 years old and counting) turns an average hipster into a vampire, the guys step in to guide him through his new life. It's the appearance of Nick's human friend Stu that starts to thaw the flatties' cold, dead hearts — showing them that maybe humans are worth fighting for.

Starring Viago (Taika Waititi), Deacon (Jonny Brugh), and Vladislav (Jemaine Clement), this isn't your average scary flick.

As always, the Southern Cross will scatter the beanbags and movie snacks to get you in that October 31st mood. There'll also be prizes for best costume — dress code is dead, but delicious.
