Overview

Lower Hutt's Riddiford Garden will be transformed into an interactive carnival of light installations this Labour Weekend.

For four days from Friday 20 October, the gardens will be covered in magical lighting displays and activities, taking them from your everyday botanics into a long weekend destination. This is the event's first year and there are big things in the works — think: a food truck pop-up, nightly fireworks displays, UV painting and marbling and, of course, what event is complete without an awe-inspiring aerial performance inside a giant inflatable lightbulb?

The event is centred around the theme 'Being Human', which is explored in plenty of intriguing ways, with aspects of human social life, physicality, emotions and culture being looked at, as well as how we define ourselves through interaction with technology.

Entry is free but you can support Alzheimer's Wellington by checking out Affinity. It's an award-winning lighting installation inspired by what goes on in our brains, where you can walk through an enormous structure exploring neuron-like connections and making new 'memories'.

HighLight runs in Riddiford Garden, Lower Hutt from Friday October 20 to Monday October 23 from 7pm - 11pm nightly.
