John Wick-athon
Strap yourself in for all three chapters of the indulgent gun fu saga.
Overview
John Wick (Keanu Reeves) was just your ordinary ex-hitman turned family man who recently lost his wife to terminal illness. As a departing gesture, John Wick's wife left him with an adorable beagle puppy called Daisy to comfort him through his grief. What happens next will shock you.
John Wick takes Daisy for a ride around in his 69 Mustang. While at a petrol station, John Wick encounters a gang of Russian mobsters who want to buy his car. John Wick refuses, and in ill-founded vengeance, the Russian gang go to his house that night and kill his puppy, triggering John Wick to go on a three movie-long killing rampage to seek vengeance for his dog. As Vulture put it, "By killing a puppy, the creators of John Wick birthed a franchise."
Directed by a former stuntman, Chad Stahelski, the critically acclaimed John Wick saga is indulgent gun fu at its best. In order to pay proper tribute to the release of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the The Roxy Cinema is hosting John Wick-athon on May 18, where they will be screening both Chapters 1 and 2, as well as the newly released Chapter 3 of the saga.
The third chapter of the saga cranks the Wick dial right up, with a recent Twitter leak (cheers @katerbland) confirming that the new movie will be featuring dogs which are also assassins and wear bulletproof vests. Assassin dogs. With bulletproof vests. Halle Berry is also in it.
The night starts off with John Wick screening at 5pm, followed by John Wick: Chapter 2 at 7pm and finishing on John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum at 9.15pm. Films will be screening one after another with a small 30-minute intermission between each chapter. Tickets to chapters 1 and 2 are $10 each, while tickets to the new Chapter 3 are standard $15 pricing. Tickets sold separately. Get in quick.
