Overview

As well as being known for biting gale force winds, the city of Wellington has an taste for extremely good beer. To give locals a bit of respite from the weather and another excuse to go out and have a drink, the Mid Winter Ale Festival is returning for 2015.

Run by the Society of Beer Advocates, which suitably shortens to SOBA, the event’s focus is on dark and wintry beers, with rare and innovative brews on offer from around the region, and further beyond.

Brewers signed up for the sixth outing include: Liberty, Hallertau, 8 Wired, Moa, Mike’s, Black Dog, Funk Estate, Yeastie Boys, Garage Project, ParrotDog - plus a whole lot more. In fact, organisers are expecting between 25 to 30 beers to be available on the day, many of which will be one-off and new releases.

Wellington brewers Choice Bros Brewing have followed the winter theme down to a tee and will be offering two distinctly seasonal brews, including a Roast Lamb & Mint Ale and a Meat & 3 Veg-style ale with roasted carrots, potatoes and peas added to the mash.

The ticket price includes eight half glass beer tastings as well as a $5 food voucher.
