Overview

Since its inception in 2016, Morning People has developed a cult following and attracted some of New Zealand's best DJs. The hump day morning rave was started by co-founders Vanessa Scott and Jamie Newman — who also introduced the No Lights No Lycra concept to New Zealand.

After two years and over 70 parties later, the rave is expanding to Wellington. Kicking off at 6.30am, the parties are drug and alcohol-free and participants are encourage to let loose and get sweaty. The $15 entry fee also includes complimentary Altezano Brothers coffee, Almighty organic juices and fresh fruit.

"We started very small in Auckland and over time built a crowd which started attracting some big name DJs like Aroha, Greg Churchill, Dan Aux, Sambora (from Shapeshifter) and electronic live act Yoko Zuna. The energy we get at these parties each time is truly awesome and has to be experienced — we knew it was time to expand and Wellington is the obvious choice."

The debut of Morning People Wellington will be held on Tuesday, 7 August at Club 121. Newman himself will be onboard to thrash 90 minutes of house and techno. Thereafter it will run every second Tuesday from 6.30-8.00am with guests Marcos Alonso, DJ Coda and Daniel Farley.
