National Farmers' Markets Week 2024

There's nothing quite like picking up fresh produce while moseying around a weekend farmers' market — and now Kiwis can give back to the local producers and suppliers who work hard everyday to make this experience possible. National Farmers' Markets Week is taking place throughout New Zealand from Saturday, March 9–Sunday March 17, a nationwide series of markets celebrating the important role that farmers have in feeding communities throughout Aotearoa.

Farmers' markets are a thriving industry, with 25 farmers markets taking place throughout New Zealand every week, run by more than 1000 small food businesses and serving around 50,000 Kiwi customers all around the country.

Just within Auckland, there are five weekly markets: Parnell, Clevedon, Grey Lynn, Matakana and Catalina Bay which are all jam-packed market-goers every weekend.

This National Farmers' Market Week, regular market-goers and first time market-shoppers are encouraged to support local when it comes to picking up fresh essentials like bread, cheese, eggs, fish, meat, vegetables and fruit. These items are often cheaper than what you may find at the supermarket — not to mention better.

There are a whole range of events taking place throughout Aotearoa during National Farmers' Market Week, including special produce goodie bags, a scavenger, chef demonstrations and a competition to make the best piece of art from focaccia.
