Overview

Auckland four-piece Racing formed from the ashes of teen rock 'n' roll band The Checks, psych-pop group Sherpa and trip hop four-piece Space Creeps. Those diverse musical backgrounds are evident in the local supergroup's unique blend of groove-based psychedelic rock.

Having trickled out small tasters over the past few years, the band has now released a full package, in the form of the The Bass EP. Across the four-track release you'll find subversive grooves, danceable guitar hooks and colourful lyrics. The band trace their influences to Can, Marilyn Manson and Depeche Mode, with the soulful melodies of Motown.

Frontman Ed Knowles expands on the band's new single 'If Only', calling it "a disco dreamscape that sounds like it's come out of Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet."

Catch an explosive live performance from Racing at Meow on October 7.
