Overview

A sunlit piazza, a noble ballroom and a moonlit balcony made up Royal New Zealand Ballet's 2017 premiere of Romeo & Juliet. Under New Zealand's COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, the national company is bringing the striking live performance to your living room.

Inspired by Franco Zeffirelli's classic 1968 film and set to Prokofiev's score, RNZB's interpretation is a hot-blooded, passionate re-telling of Shakespeare's play. Renaissance Verona will come to life with exquisite costumes and sets by Academy Award-winner James Acheson.

The production will be broadcast three times over the weekend: Friday, 1 May at 7.30pm, Saturday, 2 May at 1.30pm and Sunday, 3 May at 10.30am.

Alongside full productions, RNZB Education is putting together a wealth of digital resources for people of all ages staying at home, including online workshops and balletic exercises.
