Overview
There's nothing quite as grand as a night at the ballet. Especially if the production is The Sleeping Beauty, the decadent fairytale portrayal so beloved of audiences since its first 1890 staging at the height of Russian Imperial grandeur. There is therefore no one better to present the tale of The Sleeping Beauty than the Russian National Ballet Theatre. Returning from Russia to tour 45 New Zealand locales, the 50-strong cast of dancers bring a classical performance beautiful in its choreography, staging and score.
Composed by Tchaikovsky, its sweeping grandeur will transport audiences into the heyday of classical ballet. The 2015 production has a passionate creative team with Artistic Director Evgeny Amosov at the helm. Formed to support promising young creative potential, the Russian National Ballet Theatre has been hailed by critics as being "located on a creative upswing." Their performances of classical, iconic ballet productions have been seen all over the world.
