Overview

Dance and classical aren't music genres you'd usually find swirling around in the same basket — unless you have a particular bent for the orchestral 'Sandstorm' covers found in the depths of YouTube. Synthony - A Generation of Dance Music is here once again to prove that the disciplines go hand in hand.

After its first sell-out run in Wellington, the event will return to TSB Arena next February. The event will see the Auckland Symphony Orchestra and a selection of local DJs combine to play the biggest dance tracks of the last 30 years.

ASO Music Director and Conductor, Peter Thomas, will lead the 90-piece orchestra through a selection of dance floor bangers note-for-note, while DJs Greg Churchill, Dick Johnson and Otosan add some touches to the live mix. The full setlist will be revealed on the night, though past shows have featured arrangements from Fat Boy Slim, Eurythmics, Delerium and more. The live show will also feature guest vocal performances by P-Digsss, Laughton Kora, Jenny B, Ria Hall, Helen Corry and Cherie Mathieson, among several others.

The arena show is being billed as the most ambitious production yet, and will include a highlights selection of crowd favourites from past shows. All that plus a backdrop of visuals and lasers.
