The Colourists

A workshop exploring colours through sensory rather than purely visual means.

Overview

The Colourists is a pop-up series of colour driven workshops pairing kids with local artists.

Running December 15 through 20, the workshops will explore one colour a day through sensory rather than purely visual means, expanding the scope of each colour through texture, sound and smell.

The workshops give children the opportunity to meet local artists and transform a space into art using graphic, organic patterns and textures, handmade creatures and flora, and sculptural elements. With support from Wellington's 'Urban Dream Brokerage' platform, the process will be visible to the public – who can visit at designated times and have their own opportunities to participate in the metamorphosis. The interaction will include a 'People's Colour Roulette', where you can spin and play in a game of colour vs. sense.

Children of all different abilities are invited to participate, including those with sight or hearing impairments, as well as learning difficulties. The main goal of the workshop is to create a temporary community of creators, children and artists alike in a neutral space.

It will be led by artists Sophia McKinnon, Kerry Ann Lee, Vanessa Crowe and Stephen Mushin.

The Colourists will be held at a pop-up venue at 108 Lambton Quay, Wellington.
