Overview

This week in Wellington, stray shipping containers behind Te Papa will be playing host to art installations, performance pieces and live music as part of the fifth The Performance Arcade. The Arcade is entirely free to explore, with an emphasis on encouraging new encounters between artists and the public (think The Artist is Present, but without the weird marathon staring contest).

The 2015 edition of The Performance Arcade features new works from over 70 artists. Included in the programme: a naked photographer taking photos of you feeling awkward, a one-on-one sci-fi psychotherapy session, a free music prescription service, Rihanna's song 'Only Girl in the World' becomes a creepy self-superimposition into well known romance movies and an artist attempts to Powerpoint your existential crisis.

The Arcade also features a pop-up bar, featuring a free programme of live music from the likes of various Wellington musicians including Groeni, Nikita the Spooky, and Cumbia Blazera.

The Performance Arcade opens at 5pm, 18 February and is then open from 10am to 11pm each day from 19-22 February.
