Overview

The Hutt is getting its very own version of Sydney's Vivid festival with Highlight this October. The new four-night carnival of lights sees Riddiford Gardens in Lower Hutt transformed with lighting installations and activities, and the Dowse Art Museum is getting in on the action.

The museum is offering three nights of torchlight tours, switching off the lights and giving small groups a chance to experience an intimate look at the current exhibitions. The guided tours take about 15 minutes and leave every half hour from the front desk.

Dowse guides will share insight into the current exhibitions as you enjoy your very own Night At The Museum. Check out photogapher Fiona Clarke's seminal Te Iwi o Te Wahi Kore, which examines the confiscation of Taranaki iwi land, and Reflect, the third exhibition of the Handshake series where contemporary jewellers at the beginning of their careers are linked with established international jewellers.

Tours depart every half hour from 6.30–8.30pm on 20, 22 and 23 October. No bookings are required, first come, first served.
