Overview
This Thursday, 4 March, City Gallery Wellington welcomes back its after-hours event series.
Tuatara Open Late sees the contemporary gallery's exhibition halls stay open later than usual for a curated program of art, music, film, talks, beer, wine and food. This month, visitors have the opportunity to explore the new exhibition, Marianna Simnett: Creature, a showcase of the artist's visceral and theatrical video works which draw on storytelling and folklore conventions.
At 6pm, a short illustrated lecture by Dr Erin Harrington will delve into women, identity and bodies in horror. At 7pm, Pip Adam and the City Gallery Book Club return with a reading list inspired by Simnett's exhibition, in addition to monsters and modern fairy tales. Illustrator and author of 'This Is Not A Pipe', Tara Black, will be in the audience illustrating this session of City Gallery Book Club: Monster Mash, plus artist Simon Ingram and Moniker (Samuel Scott, Luke Buda, and Conrad Wedde from The Phoenix Foundation) will improvise to create a neuro-action painting on the Monadic Device.
Throughout the evening, visitors can enjoy DJ Dan Aikido and enjoy supper treats from Taco Addicts. The cash bar will be pouring drops from Tuatara and Seresin Estate.
Due to COVID-19 Alert Level 2 restrictions, Tuatara Open Late will have restricted capacity and booking is required. There are two session times available and you can choose to book for both (separately).
