Overview

It's one of the best, free events in the city: the Wellington City Gallery's Tuatara Open Late. Art, music, talks and beer combine to provide a Thursday night that's always an interesting time. This week, the first Thursday of the month, begins with a book launch celebration: Witi Ihimaera and Tina Makereti's Black Marks on the White Page, a collection of Oceanic stories for the twenty-first century.

After the book launch, the awars-winning Modern Māori Quartet will be performing. The quartet, featuring James Tito, Matariki Whatarau, Maaka Pohatu and Francis Kora, bill themselves as a "Māori Ratpack" with a contemporary approach. Their acting and musicianship are interwoven with traditional Māori storytelling. Waiata, combined with western showband tropes. We can't wait.

As always, the beers are flowing, Seresin wines and Six Barrel Sodas are on offer. This week, the supper treats are by Nam D.
