Unknown Mortal Orchestra
Supporting what may quite possibly be the album of the year.
Overview
Unknown Mortal Orchestra will perform a run of six dates in New Zealand this December in support of what may quite possibly be the album of the year, Multi-Love.
The Portland-based group is the brainchild of New Zealand songwriter Ruban Nielson, also known for his role in The Mint Chicks. The project began in the bedroom with Nielson releasing the infectious track 'Ffunny Ffrends' on an unnamed bandcamp page. He's since released three album's worth of psychedelic pop, including the self-titled Taite Music Prize-winning debut, the introspective and road-weary II, and the incredibly accomplished Multi-Love.
Released to critical acclaimed earlier this year, the album explores the lifestyle of a polyamorous relationship Nielson found himself in, all while showcasing his usual technicolour flair for psychedelic synthesisers and guitar.
On UMO's visit to New Zealand, Nielson will be joined by bassist Jacob Portrait, drummer Riley Geare, and keyboardist Quincy McCrary. Support from Auckland punk trio Las Tetas.
