Overview

Any Wellingtonian would be familiar with the sights of Sean Beldon's latest exhibition. Through a series of paintings he captures the universally-felt anticipation of what lies ahead from the back seat. Waiouru through Wairarapa, to Wellington draws from Sean's memories of road trips in his homeland South Africa. A new leg of his artistic journey began with his move to New Zealand in 2007.

The creative is equal parts photographer and painter. Sean paints primarily from photographs, where the skill falls equally on the lens and the brush. The paintings shift their focus to the use of composition, form and colour. The collection forms part of an ongoing theme of into the heartland, representing not only the countryside but also the exploration into oneself. The illustrated scenes are recognisable to anyone who has driven the route, although Sean is known for renovating the everyday view.
