Overview

Wellington's spectacular Matariki Sky Show was postponed in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions. With the kaleidoscopic explosives sitting in storage ever since, this Wellington Anniversary Weekend serves as the perfect occasion to finally let them rip.

The Wellington Sky Show will take flight over the waterfront on Sunday, 24 January. Organise the troops and make your way down to the waterfront promenade for the 9.30pm start time. The show runs for 30 minutes. With previous fireworks displays in the capital falling victim to high winds and visiting whales, we can only hope that everything goes to plan this weekend.

Several other celebrations are scheduled across the anniversary weekend, including annual Pasifika Festival on Saturday, 23 January, a kid's zone in Frank Kitts Park, music in Odlins Plaza, a circus stage in Circa Plaza and amusement rides in Waitangi Park.
