Overview

Lionel 'Buster' Crabb — the namesake of this Invercargill gastropub — was an M16 diver and a Royal Navy frogman who disappeared in 1956 while investigating a Soviet cruiser anchored at Portsmouth Dockyard. It's a cool backstory for a restaurant that itself is effortlessly cool. Housed in a heritage building, the team serves up a full range of decadent fare for lunch and dinner. When a place has a dedicated cigar menu, you know it's fancy. Think venison pate, green lipped mussels poached in cider and slow roasted duck crumble.

Drinks wise, it boasts a comprehensive whisky list as well as a solid wine list with the famed Malborough sav blanc making an appearance. The kitchen is open all day till very late, meals can even be organised past 10pm by special arrangement, so it's the perfect place to while away an evening.
