Caffe L'Affare

An absolute crowd-pleaser of a cafe.

Overview

Caffe L’Affare has been serving the people of Wellington since 1990, and there is good reason they are still going. The large, rustic space is familiar and easy; there is no need for your KW sunnies and Roshes here. Families are very welcome, with toys available to keep the kids occupied, leaving you to focus on the fantastic food and coffee.

The baked eggs ($15.50) are baked to yolky perfection on a spicy bed of tomatoes and cannellini beans, sprinkled with hazelnut dukkah, and served with two slices of toasted Turkish bread to smother in butter and dip to your heart’s content; it’s a protein powerhouse like no other (except for maybe that huge tub of whey protein that resides on top of every male I know's fridge). Other menu highlights include the chorizo, rocket and sautéed potatoes with poached eggs ($17.50) and the vanilla, buttermilk and ricotta pancakes with banana and maple syrup ($13.50). It’s also worth mentioning that they have a separate weekday menu, with daily specials, and some seriously eye-catching meals, such as the orecciette with pancetta, peas, pine nuts, basil and parmesan cream ($18.50).

Bring your parents, bring your grandparents, bring your flatties, bring your whey-loving boyfriend, because L'Affare is an absolute crowd-pleaser.
