Overview

The bubble tea craze seems to have hit Wellington like a tonne of bricks, with new teahouses opening up left, right and centre in our CBD. If you're not sure what bubble tea is, it's a tasty east Asian shaken drink, made either with a milk or tea base, served hot or cold and with an array of different flavours and toppings — tapioca pearls are the signature of any bubble tea drink.

With plenty of competing companies popping up around Wellington, one teahouse, in particular, stands out. Noah's Ark has taken over the bubble tea game, with five different branches across the Wellington region. The brand prides itself on distinct and authentic flavours and a menu ranging from fruit teas to bean, milk and brown sugar tea options.

The Bobaristas (yes, they're actually called that) can create the bubble tea of your choice, with an array of toppings such as jelly, ice cream, pudding and popping boba. Every tea is freshly made, shaken and served to you in-store and has a unique flavour that can only be created by the Bobaristas at Noah's Ark. Something that sets this teahouse apart from the rest is the incorporation of vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free ingredients. In fact, every single drink can be made vegan on request, with plant-based milk, cream and pudding options to choose from.

When ordering a bubble tea for the first time at one of the Noah's Ark branches, this experience can sometimes be confusing with just so many options to choose from. You'll need to start with your tea option, whether it's a milk or tea base, and then choose your flavour — original, taro, watermelon, passionfruit, the list goes on. You also get the choice to adjust your temperature, sweetness and ice levels. Bubble tea is one of those beverages that tastes just as good hot or cold — I wouldn't recommend settling for lukewarm. Finally, you'll have your choice of toppings, you can choose to keep it simple with tapioca pearls or go all out with lashings of jelly and a scoop of ice cream. Most basic teas start from $7, however, the price can go up depending on the number of toppings you add to your drink.

The Bobaristas at Noah's Ark make your experience quick, easy and completely delicious with the large range of flavours and toppings and fast, friendly service. Once you're hooked on the wonders of bubble tea there's no going back. So, you'll be pleased to know that their menu is also available to order from Uber Eats, delivered straight to your doorstep. Or visit one of their many branches in Manners, Lower Hutt, Mount Cook or this newest addition on Lambton Quay.
