Overview
Amid the river valleys of Whanganui National Park, the Bridge to Nowhere is a curious concrete structure with no connecting roads or surrounding landmarks.
While it might look like it was plonked down by an ancient civilisation, the reality is a little less exciting. To support soldiers returning from WWI, it was built by the government to improve access to potential farmland.
Yet this plan didn't quite pan out, so the bridge now serves as an engineered marvel amid the lush forest home to fascinating bird life.
