Overview
The Roxy has undergone her fair share of facelifts in recent times, however the latest transition from fine dining restaurant to lounge bar is hopefully one that will last.
One constant is the establishment’s namesake, maintaining its original label ‘Roxy’, originating from the century old theatre that previously occupied the space. Another is the aura the bar exudes, with the refurbished historic building preserving its venerable mystique.
A rarity in the central city nowadays, Roxy boasts its very own rooftop deck, complete with retractable roof, ensuring it is ‘season-friendly’. The Roxy is split level, with the dance floor and DJ below, while the upstairs deck and mezzanine area provide an ideal spot for lounging. The Roxy is a great location to enjoy a couple of post-work drinks, which are likely to transcend the evening inside the comfortable, inky surrounds.
There is a solid range of bottled beer including Emerson’s, Little Creatures and Hoegarden, or for the purists, a selection of premium whiskeys to choose from.
An enticing cocktail list is available, continuing the overall ‘Hollywood-esque’ vibe of the Roxy, including the Café Le Peche or the Romeo and Roxy. The former is an espresso martini with a twist, shaken over an egg white so that it becomes light, fluffy and foamy with a rich coffee flavour and fruity notes. The latter is a dry, fruity gin-based cocktail with subtle sweet and sour elements.
Other options include champagne cocktails such as the Sweet Virgin, with sweet vermouth, fresh grapefruit juice and sugar; or A Kiss From Roxy, with elderflower liqueur, fresh lemon juice and sugar.
Rounding out the drinks options is an array of champagne and sparkling wines, ensuring there are bubbles for all occasions. With Bollinger, Veuve Clicquot, vintage Dom Perignon and Laurent Perrier all housed at the Roxy, there is sure to be something to enlighten most palettes.
Booths on the mezzanine level can be booked, complete with table service, are available from 10pm. The Roxy is open Tuesday to Saturday from 5pm, and Thursday to Saturday until late.
