Overview

A Puppet, a Pauper, a Pirate, a Poet, a Pawn and a King draws together an eclectic mix of artwork from the private collection of Australian entrepreneur and art collector Naomi Milgrom AO. Recognised as one of Australia's top business leaders, Milgrom is also an art afficianado. Along with building a influential collection of contemporary art, Milgrom is a major supporter of arts education and projects in the southern hemisphere.

Auckland Art Gallery is the first public institution to present Milgrom's adventurous collection of internationally acclaimed art. The exhibition includes works by Turner Prize winner Martin Boyce, German photographer Andreas Gursky, South African interdisciplinary artist William Kentridge as well as German photographer Thomas Demand, African-American artist Kara Walker and the Polish painter Wilhelm Sasnal.

A Puppet, a Pauper, a Pirate, a Poet, a Pawn and a King features 22 works, some of which will be seen for the first time in New Zealand. The works span a wide range of styles and themes, representing a cross-section of  mediums, ideas and perspectives.
