The award-winning retelling of Homer's Iliad returns this June to mesmerise crowds once again. New Zealand storyteller, Michael Hurst, plays The Poet and is accompanied by Shayne P Carter (Straitjacket Fits, Dimmer) as an on-stage musician, creating a real-time soundscape that you've never experienced before.

Homer's Iliad is an ancient Greek poem set during the Trojan War and tells of the final weeks of the Trojan War and the Greek siege of the city of Troy (which was also known as Ilion, Ilios or Ilium in ancient times). The original poem explores themes of war, glory, wrath, homecoming and fate, which will no doubt be portrayed effectively in this rendition written by Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare.

This is the same production that premiered last year at the Fortune Theatre, and won three awards at the 2018 Dunedin Theatre Awards for Production of the Year, Outstanding Performance for Michael and Outstanding Sound Design for Shayne. Auckland will finally be able to experience this transfixing reenactment of a classic at The Herald Theatre.
