Auckland Live Summer in the Square

Overview

Auckland Live is bringing summer to Aotea Square, with its jam-packed programme of live music, dance classes and an afternoon full of celebrations to ring in Lunar New Year.

Held across four weekends from Thursday, February 1–Sunday, February 25, Aucklanders will be invited to pull up a deckchair, soak up the sun, grab a snack from one of the many food trucks and embrace the free entertainment put on for the Tāmaki Makaurau community. Here are a few of the highlights...

From February 1–6 String Symphony will be popping up in Aotea Square, inviting the audience to help a team of expert puppeteers bring a two-storey-sized puppet to life, just by using their hands.

On Saturday, February 10, the young talent discovered during secondary school music and dance competition Stand Up Stand Out will be flexing their singing chops with an afternoon packed full of live performances.

From Friday, February 16–Sunday, February 18, the Auckland Latin Festival will be taking over the square, featuring dance lessons, traditional treats like Brazilian barbecue, tacos and empanadas, as well as three stages pumping out salsa, bachata, merengue and reggaeton beats all weekend.

Next up is the annual Auckland Pride March on Saturday, February 25, a huge event to round out Auckland Pride Month. The LGBTQIA+ community and its allies will gather in Aotea Square before marching down Queen Street towards Britomart. And prior to the Pride March, Aotea Square will be celebrating Lunar New Year with the Lunar Festival on the same day.
