Overview
1885 in Britomart always seems to deliver engaging events since its beginning in September 2010, and will no doubt be a place of sin during the Rugby World Cup, nestled in the popular Britomart precinct. Set inside the historic Stanbeth building, the interior features restored brick, exposed kauri beams and luxurious leather couches, while the bar itself boasts an extensive wine cellar and cocktails selection.
Every month, 1885 plays host to royalty. Prince's of Parnell and Ponsonby collaborate, along with their royal swagger of friends to deliver a monthly edition of Departure Club, (spelt DPTR CLB). A tongue and cheek approach to Auckland's pretentious DJ scene, the night encourages an attractive mix of young and old (by young and old I mean 20-35, sorry Dad). Featuring fashion moguls Steve Dunstan (Huffer) and Marc Moore (Stolen Girlfriends Club), Seth Josephs, new age media kid Tom Bates (slash handbag to Samantha Hayes), and new kid on the block Connor Nestor (host of TVNZ U and Rip It Up Reviewer).
The night always delivers fresh new music (and old classics) without relying on the Top 40 to fill a bar or hold the d-floor. These guys have their ear to the ground, and know what is hot and what deserves shots. And their catch phrase is always an invite hard to refuse: "Come drink champagne from the bottle".
