DOC Talks
A series of free, public panels and conversations about non-fictional cinema.
Overview
The burning questions that have been floating around your head for the duration of 2015 Documentary Edge Festival will finally be addressed.
The non-fictional cinema festival celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, with more than 10,000 people filling up theatres to watch a selection of 57 thought-provoking docos. To wrap up the two-week event in Auckland, and before it heads to Wellington, DOC Talks will unite international commentators and filmmakers for a weekend full of free, public panels and conversations; topics ranging from the future of documentaries to the economics of forecasting.
Director of same-sex marriage doco Gayby Baby, Maya Newell, will discuss her experience of making the film and some of the key issues raised by it; precious metals aficionado Larry Edelson, who was involved in The Forecaster, will discuss the economic theories and controversies that the film explores; directors Erik Greenberg Anjou and Mark Helenowski will come together to talk food and film; and three separate panels will focus on transmedia storytelling, state surveillance and privacy rights, and the role of Kiwi Asians in the media.
Seats for the talks are limited, and will be based on a first come, first served basis.
