Fancy New Band 2018
Discover new local music at this multi-venue showcase.
Overview
Every Friday, 95bFM's Morning Glory show wakes up listeners with live performances from local emerging artists. On 26 May, a bunch of the station's favourites will be performing at free, multi-venue event, Fancy New Band 2018.
Hip hop heads will be spoilt for choice with five acts to sample. The flow of Buuda is evocative of '90s rap and sound samples. He will juxtapose nicely with the fusion of Balkan singing traditions with hip hop and neo-soul courtesy of SKILAA. Experimental beat maker Drako Madtalk will also be making an appearance, along with teenage bedroom producer Leaping Tiger with a textured mashup of electronica, hip hop and R&B. Eclectic producer, beatmaker and rapper Bobandii brings together Flying Lotus-tinged beats and club bangers in a set underpinned by his incisive rhymes.
But if loads of Korg synths and sharp techno tunes inspired by digging holes and trips to Turkey are more your jam, check out Kimmy. Dream synth duo LEXXA will ease the night into a gentle lull and scuzzy slacker Vincent H.L will be able to show off his admirable songwriting abilities and haggard blues-inspired vocals. While Whaea & The Rumble merges kapa haka, waiata, and industrial rhythms to create an unforgettable performance.
Kicking off at 8.30pm, all acts will be performing across three venues in the heart of K'Road — The Wine Cellar, Whammy and Whammy Backroom. If you're sick of the same old songs on your playlist and are keen to discover new local music, then pop along to Fancy New Band.
