Five Boroughs at Culprit.
Feat. heaven-sent buttermilk fried chicken.
Overview
First they introduced us to "really fucking hot chicken" from across the ditch, now, to save you another journey and an opportunity to sample glorious fried chicken, contemporary yum-cha restaurant Culprit. is bringing the best of Wellington up north for two collaborative pop-ups.
Elie Assaf and Bryn Thomas are the names behind two of the capital city's best eateries. Five Boroughs is a New York-style diner known for its bottomless coffee and decor lifted straight from a Woody Allen film, while Five & Dime treads the line of fine-dining street food. Both are worth the trip alone.
On Sunday 28 May, Five Boroughs will take over the whole menu at Culprit. offering American-influenced diner food. Health fiends should set aside a cheat day, the menu holds no punches with mouthwatering classics like a ground brisket cheeseburger, heaven-sent buttermilk fried chicken complete with maple mayo and pickles, and sides like fries with cheese and gravy, and mac 'n' cheese.
On Tuesday 30 May, Five and Dime will take over Culprit.'s yum-cha-style trolley service across two sittings (6.30pm and 7:30pm). Plates include: Wagyu beef tartare with potato hash, truffle and wild shrooms, and chocolate braised beef with goat feta crumb, avocado cream and blue corn tortilla. The Culprit. crew will provide the larger plates and dessert. Bookings can be made online for the Tuesday service.
