Greening the City
Thousands of native trees are up for grabs in Britomart's Takutai Square this month.
Overview
If lockdowns spent at home saw you develop a passion for all things green and growing, you're going to want to get down to Britomart's Takutai Square later this month and get those green fingers on some native trees.
The Britomart team are bringing back Greening the City, an initiative giving away thousands of native trees that have all been raised from seeds at 1000-acre Bay of Islands property The Landing.
To get your hands on one or two trees, you just need to bring along a gold coin as a donation to the Native Forest Restoration Trust. No cash? No problem — there will also be donation tap-and-go terminals, so you've got no excuse.
You can head down to grab your trees on Wednesday, April 27 and Thursday, April 28 from 11am-5pm, as well as Friday, April 29 from 11am-3pm.
Don't worry if you're in the "but I kill every plant I touch" boat — honestly, same. The Landing's nursery manager Caleb Scott will also be running free half-hour lunchtime workshops covering the basics of planting and successfully raising native trees. Grab the workmates and head along between Wednesday and Friday from 12.30pm-1pm. Just make sure to register for your spot.
