I'll Be Fine

A snapshot of adolescence.

Overview

Director Ryan Knighton says that I’ll Be Fine is a must-see for those who have experienced or are going to experience the frightening transformation into adulthood.

The play is a snapshot of adolescence, dealing with the anxieties of leaving high school, the intimidation of coming of age, and the impossible avoidance of self-discovery. It also uses the tradition of the Kiwi road-trip as a metaphor for direction in young peoples' lives.

High school is over, and with no desire to attend Uni, Jude and his best-friend Brian take a road trip up North in search of an absent father figure. Expect drunken self-reflections, gangster movie re-enactments, and lemon chicken.

I'll Be Fine is nineteen year old writer Ben Wilson's first play. Following sell-out performances at Wellington's BATS-out-of-site, the play was shortlisted for Playmarket NZ’s Playwrights b425 and was described as “…Like a Kiwi Woody Allen on speed,” by The Dominion Post.
