L’Art Reflete La Vie

Overview

Shelton Woolright is a busy man. He is the drummer of London-based rockers I Am Giant, a commercial photographer, he takes engaging documentary shots of his travels, does a bit of street art and has recently collaborated on a series of rad t-shirts with DC Skateboarding. He has also managed to acquire a number of impressive tattoos in-between his own creative pursuits. Phew.

Despite all this activity, he has taken out time to befriend Eva — a very special girl living with gastrointestinal failure, who is the brave little ambassador for Cure Kids. Cure Kids is a charity that drives research with the aim of finding the cures for serious illnesses impacting many New Zealand children. Shelton Woolright's upcoming exhibition, presented by MOA beer, L’Art reflete la vie—Art Imitating Life, will feature a print made in Eva's honour, and all proceeds from its sale will go towards helping Cure Kids continue their work. He has also created a piece devoted to the late Charlotte Dawson, which will be donated to another important New Zealand charity, Lifeline.

Woolright's latest work develops the design of the tudor rose, an emblem he has used a personal watermark for several years. The show will open on 14 March at a pop-up space in the Viaduct, fresh from its debut in Paris earlier this year. It's a perfect opportunity to invest in some art, and help a great cause while you're at at.
