Overview

The latest show from Okareka Dance Company, the people who brought us the stunning K'Rd Strip, is an all-female show inspired by death, life, land and creature, and draws its strength from traditional Māori culture. Mana Wahine is said to be a truly powerful show and one you won't want to miss.

The show's creators were inspired by the true story of Te Aokapurangi, a young maiden from Mokoia Island who was captured in a battle by a tribe from the far north and returned years later to single-handedly save her people from slaughter.

Exploring the strength of women through breathtaking choreography and beautiful audio-visual design, Mana Wahine first hit the stage in 2014 and received rave reviews - Cliff Curtis even said it was one of the greatest dance works he's ever seen. How's that for a rave review?

Bring along your daughters, mothers, and friends but don't forget the men in your life, this story of mana wahine is one we should all celebrate.
