Overview
You may never have heard of New Zealand's leading contemporary jazz saxophonist but I bet you've heard of some his English collaborative partners - Damon Albarn and Jamiroquai.
Drawing on influences from jazz deities Miles Davis and John Coltrane, Nathan Haines has fused traditional jazz melodies with more contemporary genres such as hip-hop, dance and drum and bass. His latest album Vermillion Skies has a distinguished retro feel as he returns to a more classical rootsey jazz sound in the company of pianist Kevin Field.
Haines has built on his highly acclaimed 2012 album the Poet's Embrace, which spent a whole month in the top 20 album charts, with two sold out shows at London's famous Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. Accompanied by a 12-piece band entourage, Haines is set to showcase a special night of jazzy tunes.
