Overview

Steve Winter is what people call “a big cat legend.” The highly respected photographer's obsession with allusive endangered species has resulted in several intense encounters with the big cats of Africa, Brazil and Hollywood. He has twice taken out the nature category in the World Press Photo Competition, and his decade-long project to document the world’s disappearing tigers also recently culminated in the National Geographic book Tigers Forever.

In a one-off presentation, Winter will share gripping behind-the-scenes tales of what it takes to negotiate the world’s most remote locations in order to capture rare images of cats. The hour-and-a-half long talk will see Winter detail experiences from capturing the nocturnal adventures of a mountain lion in the Hollywood hills, being charged by rhinos, avoiding becoming jaguar lunch in a Brazilian rainforest, and being trapped in quicksand in the world's largest tiger reserve in Myanmar.

The presentation is part of National Geographic Live, where speakers share stories from the front lines of exploration on stage alongside stunning imagery and gripping footage. The events are currently held in 32 cities around the world. The New Zealand leg of National Geographic Live: My Nine Lives will be the first on a tour of Australasia.
